The Financial News began publication on May 1, 1987 with joint funding by eight of China’s largest and best known financial institutions: People's Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, People’s Construction Bank of China, The People's Insurance Company of China, Bank of Communications and China CITIC Bank. Financial News is the first news media in China established by a shareholding system. The chief architect of China's reform and opening, Deng Xiaoping, wrote the characters serving as the logo for Financial News. Importantly, the Financial News is the Party and the country’s main channel for releasing financial policy and information, as well as providing a forum for public opinion. Financial News is the only media authorized to issue financial statistical data for the People’s Bank of China and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.
